Terms
School Lesson Structure
Fees for lessons received in school are billed termly in advance and are subject to the terms and conditions of a signed ISM Tuition Agreement. Lessons are given on an individual basis, with some group sessions included or arranged separately as appropriate.
As an independent teacher working within a school I have the flexibility to work in ways which, after many years experience, I have concluded provide the best learning outcomes for children. Where possible, I find that a combination of individual and group sessions best supports pupil learning; having the individual attention to ensure progress and sound technique, whilst providing sustainability through inspiring social and creative interaction, developed within the peer group environment.
If you would like further information about my schools teaching programme or you would like me to come and teach in your school, please get in touch.

Private Lesson Structure
Lessons of between 30 and 90 minutes can be given depending on the age and level of the pupil involved. A lesson at least once a week is recommended. Separate music theory lessons can also be offered, though some theory will always be covered in the usual teaching curriculum.
Online lessons can be delivered for students wishing to learn remotely, either as a learning choice in itself or in addition to traditional one-to-one sessions. The online format is flexible, builds listening skills and pupil autonomy. In addition, students can purchase ad hoc Ten Minute Top Ups if they need help with something during the week or as a warm-up. This is great way of starting the day with a little practice, having some fun, making it all so much easier to pick up the instrument and do more later on in the day.
Lessons are structured to ensure a balance of musical learning. Students will learn music by ear, be introduced to notation reading, build technique with scales and studies, learn a varied repertoire of classical and non-classical music and do work away from the instrument (often game based) to develop mind and body co-ordination skills, and of course to have fun doing so!
New students will need to book an initial consultation lesson which includes time to discuss needs and expectations. Ongoing lessons are invoiced in a block, paid in advance and are subject to the terms and conditions of a signed ISM Tuition Agreement contract.
Home visits for lessons in Bath are available by arrangement and are subject to an additional Home Visit Charge.
